Please do not use https://typeset.io/ for any typesetting work
Today I want to warn everyone about the journal typesetting feature of a website called Typeset. This website claims to be a professional paper writing and typesetting platform, providing various journal templates and one-click typesetting functions. However, after my personal experience, I found that the journal layout function of this website actually has the problem of formatting errors, which is fatal for a paper submission because it may make the editor think that you are someone who does not read their Guide for Authors carefully, thus leading to desk reject.
I didn't carefully check the other templates in the Typeset site, I just randomly searched two journals I've submitted to (DSS and IPM) and they're actually both wrong in the Typeset site (both DSS and IPM require double spacing in their Guide for Authors, while the styles provided by the Typeset site are obviously single spaced) 😨 😨 😨!
Example Presentation
Double-spaced requirement in the DSS Guide for Authors, accessed on 13 June 2023
Double-spaced requirement in the IPM Guide for Authors, accessed on 13 June 2023
It is clear that submissions need to be double-spaced, and in particular we can see that the tone in the DSS Guide for Authors is very strong (MUST). Now let's compare the formatting of these two journals in Typeset.
Single-spaced template in the Typeset for DSS, accessed on 13 June 2023
Single-spaced template in the Typeset for IPM, accessed on 13 June 2023
I was once decisively desk rejected by an editor for a single-spaced submission to DSS 😥, so I am very impressed by this. I hope that you will avoid using the typesetting feature of this site and read the journal's submission instructions carefully before each submission.
Overall
I do not mean to dismiss all the other features of Typeset , but I have found some other features of this site very interesting (e.g., Academic AI Detector). I haven't used these features, so I can't comment on their merits. Maybe they have their own value and usefulness, and maybe they have their own problems and flaws.
Wish you all the best in your research career!
